“I make art because I see something that excites me, and I need to figure out why,” she explained. “Then I try to make something that will convey that excitement to others.”  Hall makes what she calls “tape drawings”, a term she derived to define the part of her creative process that she developed to delineate the lines of her drawings through the meticulous application of thin tape that maintains a uniform line width.

Hall had been utilizing Adobe Illustrator, something she had been familiar with after a career working in print and multimedia, to manipulate original images. “Illustrator let me draw with a uniform line and eliminate everything but the linear shapes in the images, so I’m left with a flat representation without color or depth,” Hall explained. It was when she printed one particular image 11” x 17” that she thought to herself, “This needs to be really big,” and she developed what became the artwork she is exhibiting in The View from My Window.  “It was the desire to make the drawings big, but maintain that look that led me to use tape,” she explained. Her largest drawing is approximately 9.5’ x 12.5’, with the other drawings falling within that range.

Hall named her show, The View from My Window, even though she lives in a basement apartment. “Three of the four works will be hung in a grid, and I’m hoping the effect will be like looking through a large, multi-panel window,” Hall said.
