Double Fantasy
Featuring work by Joe Kitsch and Chris Spuglio

80 Border Street East Boston
April 2– April 26, 2009

From April 2 to April 26, 2009, Atlantic Works Gallery presents DOUBLE FANTASY an exhibit of work created by the gallery artists Joe Kitsch and Chris Spuglio.

When you google “double fantasy,” most of the material that comes up refers to the comeback album by John Lennon and Yoko Ono released in November 1980 shortly before Lennon’s death. The Amazon.com blurb describes it as “a very interesting and vital crossroads.” This phrase might also serve as an accurate depiction of the upcoming Atlantic Works Gallery show featuring new works by artists Joe Kitsch and Chris Spuglio.

Though neither artist is staging a comeback nor planning for this exhibition to be a farewell, there are some connections that could be made to John and Yoko. Both “double fantasy” collections involve a conversation of sorts highlighting distinctly different points of view. Like the namesake album, the exhibit will feature two artists who have very different approaches in what they do and how they fantasize about the world around them.

For the past few years, Joe Kitsch has been making artwork based on the idea of perceptions with rabbits as the visual subject matter. His on-going series of mixed media paintings, “White Rabbit in a Snowstorm,” is hopping off the walls to become bright, cuddly sculptures. More cerebral than Chris.

Chris Spuglio’s most recent work centers around mood, texture and color. Abstract, expressionistic. More feeling than Joe.

Both contemplate the frailty of body and mind. Both have a poignant quality that expresses the passing of time and the cycle of life. Hmmm…sounds a little like the music of…….well just come and see for yourself!!

The public is invited to attend the OPENING RECEPTION on Thursday, April 2 from 6 to 9pm and to visit the gallery during the following hours: Fridays 2 – 6pm and Saturdays 2 – 6pm. The public is also invited to attend the Atlantic Works Gallery’s monthly THIRD THURSDAY SHINDIG on Thursday, April 16 from 6 to 9pm.
