Influence of Order: New Work by Julie Vinette

80 Border Street East Boston
June 5–28, 2008

East Boston, June 5-28, 2008: Vinette says, “My abstract oil paintings and drawings represent fleeting instances of time with horizontal bands that hint at sky, water, architecture, horizon and earth. “ In her latest work, Vinette addresses the very human need for order in a series which both incorporates and inundates the grid. Guiding this exploration is the process, with its own subtle order: thinned paint interacts with other translucent layers; separate moments are delineated with scar-like vertical pencil marks; wet layers ooze, drip, and separate as they dry, paint collaborating with time, chemicals with gravity, to achieve luminous color layers above the gridded structure.

Julie Vinette was born in Rochester, New York in 1970. She received a BFA with University Honors from Carnegie Mellon University in 1993. Vinette lives and works in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

Vinette’s works have been recognized in many group exhibitions including: New Art ’07 at Kingston Gallery juried by Nato Thompson, Curator at Creative Time in New York, and in the 14th Annual Juried Show (2007) at the Essex Art Center, juried by Carole Anne Meehan, Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. In addition, she has been awarded Artlink’s Outstanding Work Award at the 12th Annual National Print Exhibition, and an Honorable Mention in the 3rd Annual People’s Art Show by Pittsburgh Progressive Artists.
